Braze - Developer Knowledge Base

UX Designer

situation

Braze needed a user-friendly and highly functional knowledge base platform for developer documentation. The goal was to create a centralized, intuitive, and scalable platform that developers could use to access detailed documentation, troubleshooting guides, and resources for integrating Braze’s products and APIs into their applications. The challenge was to ensure the knowledge base was structured to meet the diverse needs of Braze’s technical users.

task

I was tasked with designing and prototyping the knowledge base platform for Braze’s developer documentation. Braze provided:

  • Persona details of their primary users (developers, product managers, and integration specialists).
  • Use-cases detailing how users would interact with the knowledge base.
  • Wireframes outlining the general structure and layout of the platform.

My responsibility was to create detailed prototypes and user interfaces based on this foundational information, ensuring the final design would be easy to navigate and tailored to the technical audience.

action

I approached the project by:

  • Reviewing Persona and Use-Cases: I carefully analyzed the personas and use cases to understand the specific needs of Braze’s user base, ensuring that the knowledge base would address different user flows—whether users were new to the platform or were experienced developers looking for specific integration documentation.
  • Wireframe Analysis & Refinement: I refined the initial wireframes provided by Braze, adding key UX/UI improvements to simplify navigation, making sure the user could easily find relevant documentation, API references, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Prototype Development: Using Figma, I developed high-fidelity prototypes for the knowledge base. I focused on creating clear, intuitive user flows for accessing different categories of documentation, implementing a robust search feature, and designing user-friendly interfaces for browsing topics, searching documentation, and interacting with guides.
  • Iterative Feedback & Testing: After the initial prototype was built, I conducted feedback sessions with Braze to gather input from stakeholders and potential users. I made iterative adjustments based on usability testing, ensuring that the platform would meet the expectations of its end users.

results

The result of this project was a fully interactive knowledge base prototype that met the diverse needs of Braze’s technical user personas, such as developers and product managers. The final design featured intuitive navigation, making it easy for users to find and access documentation, API references, and troubleshooting guides quickly. The user-friendly interface and enhanced search functionality significantly improved accessibility to resources. Braze’s team provided positive feedback, praising the clear layout and structured user flow. The prototype was designed to be scalable, allowing Braze to easily expand the platform as their documentation requirements grew over time.
